What does brightening the skin mean?

“Typically brightening means to increase the radiance or vibrancy of the skin. If one's skin feels dull, they will want to make it more radiant. It is not about changing the amount of pigment in the skin at all,”

Blemish An overproduction of oil by the sebaceous glands can cause blemishes. Hormonal changes often trigger this overproduction, such as puberty. Excess oil can mingle with dead skin cells, dirt, or bacteria. This results in pimples, pustules, blackheads, and whiteheads to form.

Pigmentation happens when your skin produces more melanin than normal. Melanin is the pigment responsible for giving your skin its color. The excess pigment is deposited deep within the skin, giving it a darker look than the skin around it.
